• After you’ve finished baking, you’ll enjoy more champagne as well as tregothnan tea and ozone coffee, Mel and the chef will taste the cakes and provide their feedback and hopefully there will be no soggy bottoms!
• Venue: Cookery School at Little Portland Street, off Regents Street
• Timing: 4pm – 8pm
• Date to be agreed with all parties - likely to not take place sooner than January 2026
Attendees will be welcomed to the Cookery School with champagne and nibbles before the baking begins. Participating pairs will have the chance to meet each other and settle in before the baking kicks off.
The professional pastry chef will give a short talk on cake-making techniques, sharing expert tips on baking cakes. To start, the chef will demonstrate how to make a faultless fatless sponge and a classic Victoria sponge. Each pair will select, in advance, the two types of cakes they’d like to bake. Given the limited time, all cakes (except for the 8” fatless sponge and lemon drizzle loaf) will be made as cupcakes to ensure they bake and cool quickly before icing.
While the cakes are in the oven, attendees will prepare toppings. Once the cakes have been iced, everyone will gather around the Cookery School table with Mel to indulge in a tasting session, sampling all the delicious creations.
Finally, Mel and our chefs will give their feedback accordingly! The delightful day will end with more champagne, tea, coffee and of course more cake! All guests will also take home a cake each.
